As it gets dark in North America, look north — especially if you live in a place without too much light pollution.
Geomagnetic storms can disrupt communication, GPS, and power grids. One such storm in March 1989 knocked out power in Québec. So keep a flashlight nearby.

Earth is currently experiencing a severe geomagnetic storm. The K-index is at 9, the highest reading.
If you're north of 45° N or south of 45° south, there's a good chance to see the aurora - weather permitting. There a fair chance of viewing it as far south as 35°N and as far north as 35°S.
