Niezwykły ruch w sądzie. Apple żąda tajnych danych od Samsunga

Amerykański producent iPhone’ów znalazł się w bardzo nietypowej sytuacji. Aby odeprzeć zarzuty rządu USA o stosowanie praktyk monopolistycznych, Apple musi udowodnić, że rynek smartfonów jest pełen silnej rywalizacji. W tym celu firma zawnioskowała o dostęp do wewnętrznych, ściśle tajnych raportów swojego największego konkurenta.

Wiosną ubiegłego roku Departament Sprawiedliwości USA (DOJ) oskarżył Apple o wykorzystywanie App Store oraz ograniczeń systemowych do tłamszenia rynkowej rywalizacji. Po nieudanej próbie oddalenia pozwu, sprawa weszła w fazę zbierania dowodów. To właśnie na tym etapie prawnicy z Cupertino postanowili wykonać intrygujący ruch.

Dokumenty, których amerykański oddział nie chce oddać

Apple od dłuższego czasu próbowało uzyskać dostęp do rynkowych danych Samsunga za pośrednictwem jego amerykańskiej filii. Samsung Electronics America odmówił jednak współpracy, argumentując, że żądane raporty analityczne i biznesowe znajdują się w wyłącznym posiadaniu głównej centrali w Korei Południowej.

Firma Tima Cooka nie złożyła jednak broni. Prawnicy Apple złożyli właśnie do sądu wniosek o wydanie oficjalnego listu na mocy Konwencji Haskiej. Ten międzynarodowy mechanizm ma zmusić centralę Samsunga do udostępnienia wewnętrznych analiz biznesowych dotyczących sprzedaży smartfonów, smartwatchy oraz funkcjonowania sklepu Galaxy Store.

Udowodnić brak monopolu

Dlaczego Apple tak bardzo zależy na papierach największego rywala? Strategia obrony wydaje się jasna. Firma chce wykorzystać twarde dane Samsunga, aby udowodnić amerykańskiemu wymiarowi sprawiedliwości, że rynek urządzeń mobilnych jest niezwykle dynamiczny.

Wewnętrzne raporty koreańskiego giganta mogłyby pokazać, jak często i jak chętnie użytkownicy przenoszą się między ekosystemami (z iOS na Androida i odwrotnie), oraz udowodnić, że polityka Apple wcale nie ma tak negatywnego wpływu na innych graczy, jak twierdzi Departament Sprawiedliwości. W dokumencie złożonym w sądzie firma przekonuje, że żądanie jest „odpowiednio precyzyjne” i nie ma innej, alternatywnej drogi na pozyskanie tych niezwykle ważnych dla sprawy informacji.

Teraz piłka leży po stronie sądu w USA oraz południowokoreańskich władz. Nawet jeśli amerykański sędzia podpisze wniosek, organy w Seulu mogą odmówić jego wykonania, a sam Samsung z pewnością znajdzie luki w lokalnym prawie, by chronić swoje najcenniejsze tajemnice handlowe przed wzrokiem inżynierów z Cupertino.

Galaxy Store gets improved GUI for tablets

Samsung has started rolling out a new version of Galaxy Store that brings improvements for the tablet users. This new version is 4.5.92.8, which brings a new sidebar at the left side of the screen instead of the blown-up mobile UI at the main home screen. You can see this improvement below:

This allows you to also collapse and expand the menu sidebar, which shows you some of the most commonly used options, such as Updates and My Apps. This is a huge improvement that makes the store actually use the big screen space that tablets have.

In addition to that, we’ve also spotted changes to the application information page, which makes suggested apps appear at the right side of the screen, while the main information pane takes up about 75% of the screen real estate to provide useful information, similar to how Google Play Store uses the large screen for app info pages.

Galaxy Store gets new icon from One UI 7 with a new update

Galaxy Store has recently gotten an update that changes the icon from the old icon found in One UI 6 or earlier to the newer icon from the upcoming One UI version set to release starting April 7th. Users of One UI 6 can now get the store update that bears version 4.5.90.7.

The next time you open Galaxy Store, you’ll be prompted to update your store app to this version, which updates the icon from the old style to the new style. Here, you can see the icon comparison below:

The new icon was used in One UI 7’s first beta. This new version of Galaxy Store not only introduces the above icon, but also introduces some stability improvements, new opening animation, and minor changes to the UI.

To install the updated version, just open the Galaxy Store and press Download. It will install the update, which is around 35 MB.
