Galaxy Store gets improved GUI for tablets

Samsung has started rolling out a new version of Galaxy Store that brings improvements for the tablet users. This new version is 4.5.92.8, which brings a new sidebar at the left side of the screen instead of the blown-up mobile UI at the main home screen. You can see this improvement below:

This allows you to also collapse and expand the menu sidebar, which shows you some of the most commonly used options, such as Updates and My Apps. This is a huge improvement that makes the store actually use the big screen space that tablets have.

In addition to that, we’ve also spotted changes to the application information page, which makes suggested apps appear at the right side of the screen, while the main information pane takes up about 75% of the screen real estate to provide useful information, similar to how Google Play Store uses the large screen for app info pages.

For comparison, here’s what an app info page looks like on tablets:

You can install this update by opening the Galaxy Store, which will greet you with an update page. This update is mandatory to ensure better experience.

Tarnkappe.info

I found out today that my (previous year) flagship #Samsung android device now requires a Samsung Account in order to keep the many pre-installed Samsung apps updated via the Galaxy Store. I don't need any "benefits" of a Samsung Account and certainly don't need the additional privacy disbenefits and extra (highly privileged) attack surface. I won't be associating a Samsung Account with my device.

Summary of the changes to the Galaxy Store policy are here if you're interested or may be affected by this: https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-account-galaxy-store-access-3484730/

This is obviously unnecessary and seems like a really dumb idea from a security / vulnerability perspective.
