/9 #Defamation is now on the table for those that purport to be #NewsMedia companies and feel themselves constrained by a modicum journalistic integrity

Many lamented that #FoxDominion didn’t go to trial, however the scale of the $787m settlement has painted a big fat target on #News companies that have deep pockets

Here’s an example of the next wave of suits directed at #Fox.

New Defamation Suit Against Fox Signals Continued Legal Threat

The suit, brought by a specialist in Russian disinformation, cites parallels with the recently settled Dominion Voting Systems case against Fox.

I think there are many charlatans operating within the 4th estate who have exploited notions of #FreeSpeech to maliciously inject lies into the public forum. That estate has been corrupted in some parts by those whose agenda is better supported by lies. That's why I'm happy at the scale of the #FoxDominion settlement. I believe it has shifted the landscape

@kbsez

I think the landscape has changed as a result of #FoxDominion. The scale of the settlement has put #NewsMedia companies on notice that they can no longer hide behind #FreedomOfSpeech defenses when found to have engaged in malicious #defamation

#FoxNews is staring down the barrel of another defamation suit from #Smartmatic. Difficult to expect that the same pattern of lies will not yield a similar settlement. With that, all of #Fox’s profits evaporate for the year

@kbsez

I can’t say I’m familiar with the #AbbyGrossberg. Certainly allegations of sexual harassment aren’t surprising given #FoxNews checkered history. In light of the revelations from #FoxDominion I imagine there is likely an electronic trail which will bolster Ms Grossberg’s suit

I disagree on the notion that the #Dominion suit is “Not a loss for Fox”, a few more loses like that….

Tucker Carlson Accused of Promoting a Hostile Work Environment in Lawsuit

Carlson’s former head of booking, Abby Grossberg, said that male producers regularly used vulgarities to describe women and frequently made antisemitic jokes.

/8 Why exactly was #TuckerCarlson fired by #FoxNews?

Chances are we’ll never really know as #RupertMurdoch and his corporate lackeys know how to keep their collective mouths shut

Likely, the firing was triggered by financial pain associated with #FoxDominion settlement, a pending sexual harassment suit or the reported general disdain #Tucker expressed to #Fox executives

Rupert Murdoch’s news empire knowingly lied. Can we just pause to take in how extraordinary that is? — Guardian US

Fox News, one of the world’s most powerful media organisations, effectively admitted it broadcast untrue information. What happens now?

/7 Many are disappointed #FoxNews will not be subjected to a public trial exposing their willful embrace of the #BigElectionLie. The #HardRight ecosphere are busily selling the shrewdness of the #FoxDominion settlement. Truth is, #Dominion has now shown the way to victims of propaganda outlets masquerading as #NewsMedia. A few more settlements like this and there will be nothing left to be shrew with

False claims about election fraud remain a problem, spreading in various places online, voting and media experts said.

The public has complicated feelings about our decision to end this trial before it ever began, and that’s OK. It’s bittersweet for us, too.

I expect the settlement will have a cooling effect on #Murdoch and his tribe of blowhards. While #Fox can certainly this settlement, a big fat precedent has been set and all #news organizations are likely calculating their increased legal exposure. Those devoted to bloviated opinion and popularizing falsehoods rather than the hard business of actual reporting will likely have to reconsider their practices.
