Aye, but by whose criteria? 🤔

The history of critical thinking is not pretty and the current state has critical problems.

It shouldn't be "follow the science" because science is not a religion. "Follow the Scientific Method" is better because it can spot science you shouldn't follow, but as academia was founded by churches, it can also vilify really good science when it hits their dogma.

Let us pause to recall how Ludwig Boltzmann died, and why, and yet why every child today knows about his atoms.

New Physics Experiment Indicates There's No Objective Reality

A long-awaited quantum physics experiment has reached a mind-bending conclusion! It turns out there is no such thing as reality.

Is the biggest challenge to scientific thinking science itself?

Data torturing, cherry-picking, P-hacking and the invention of tools such as ChatGPT — when it comes to assisting the spread of disinformation science is its own worst enemy, argues a new book.

It matters who does science

Dark Fungi? Yes, and now makes me wonder how many other venerable disciplines are overlooking 85% of their subject matter simply because it didn't fit the accepted nomenclature.

Do all fungi matter? Yes, new study argues

Mention fungi, and most people will probably think of the mushrooms they pick in fall, or maybe the yeast they add when baking or making wine. Others will perhaps recall last week's moldy bread—or cucumbers gone bad in the refrigerator. Indeed, mycologists have studied these fungi as sources of food and fermentation but also decay and disease for centuries.

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure

Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

Found in a recent psychology journal paper:

> Since data were from self-reports of a convenience sample we can't assume generalization of our results nor absence of common-method bias.

My first question is, why the hell are you publishing?

From about 1940 until as late as 1990, the topic was often treated as philosophy at best and crackpottery at worst. Many scientific journals refused to publish papers in quantum foundations, and academic positions indulging such investigations were nearly impossible to come by.
