One of the few games that manages to blend mechanics and wriring into an impactful narrative. And that narrative is one of hurting others and being hurt by the decisions you make in a system you disagree with.

It's also a game that makes profit seeking feel addictive but shameful - and delivers on the narrative promise made by exponential growth games - growth through exploitation is *satisfying* on a deep level, but the guilt its beneficients must rationalize grows faster than the profit.

(FL is also just very creative in its mechanics, and worth checking out as a candybox of ideas to discover)

Steam Summer Sale is winding down, and I'll recommend Final Profit. Part shop keeping sim, part rpg, engaging protagonist and story. Good upgrade cycle to push you forward. Lovely pixely world, yes it's rpg maker, yes it's genius. Plays great on the deck. $8.99

Other than BG3, one of my favourite games of 2023 has been Final Profit. It's a capitalism game that takes it about 14,77194 steps further than Recettear ever did.

Also, in some weird way it reminds me of Frog Fractions and it's bothering me.

The Steam deck says I have played 110 hours of Final Profit and I dearly hope that includes leaving it suspended overnight/during dinner/etc.

I am playing much too much Final Profit on my Steam deck. Faeries vs capitalism, possibly to the death (possibly, she says, ha ha). I hit 1 million credit, then blew it on real estate.
