At least a hundred protesters gathered in the centre of Merthyr Tydfil today to march up to the open pit at #FfosyFran. The mood was upbeat, underlining how civil civil society can be, and the police presence was courteous. At the top of the hill, we ranged along the fence overlooking a sheer drop into the mine's dark belly, our flags, posters and banners splashing colour into the otherwise bleak scene. They could hardly have delivered a clearer message: this poisonous mine must close, now.
