@res260 We do see all the replies to a toot ever since #FetchAllReplies got merged.
I think this CEO change has a pretty high likelihood of being connected to current funding running out and this new CEO being there to try raise another round of funds, do monetization and with the decline in usage metrics also some typo of pivot. Possibly towards growth at the expense of the protocol focus that is less likely to pay off short-term. May already have seen that with weird features like cashtags.

Shout out to Claire* and Eugen for doing the frontend on this, I got pulled away to work on other things and so they pushed it over da finish line and added a whole new AsyncRefresh feature on top.
#FetchAllReplies is for all the small instances out there! it makes a huge difference: not just seeing more stuff, but you can really feel how big of a deal it was to have been missing all the second-order convos that happen between people that weren't already mutuals once it started happening.
Moderation is the other big winner from reply fetching, as now harassment that would previously only be visible to the target and the poster can be spotted, reported, and removed by anyone passing by.
Glad its now default!
*(Not tagging bc I'm sure her notifs are noisy)
Is anyone else using #FetchAllReplies on their server? Is there any way to get a loaded post to fetch all replies in the deck view without reloading the entire page?
Currently, I can load a post up in the last column, but unless I reload the whole page, the replies aren't displayed. (I believe this is because it doesn't fetch replies for a given post until I load that post.)
Any insight here?
tonight was the first time i ever experienced an appreciable proportion of other people being able to see replies from people that they didn't already know on the fedi, and it was very good and shows gaps in our self-moderation tooling lmao. it's a small thing but like seeing secondary and tertiary discussions spawn off except for "small clusters of ppl who already know each other" is notably rare on the fedi, and imo i'm glad that it's happening. it feels like life.

@rolle @bakersteak With fetch all replies, things have changed somewhat https://greennuclear.online/@collectifission/114834033429727280
Also, later there will be Fediverse Auxiliary Service Providers https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/07/mastodon-4-4-for-devs/#fediverse-auxiliary-service-providers
The autofetch setting in 4.4 is amazing. Not perfect yet, but a great step forward. The fediverse suddenly feels a lot more 'alive' with all these shares, likes and replies I didn't see before.
