Got my lil racoon hands on a discarded FortiGate 100E gateway/switch thing.

It's past it's manufacturer support for updates. It's still assigned is previous owner (account by email, I've tried contacting them for a transfer token but they are local and notoriously crappy about responding to emails even for current clients)

Anyways...

Is there any way to make this device useful via flashing with UART, tricking it into loading magic firmware, some other network level and/or hardware poking/prodding?

My ancient sport camera was taking pictures every 5 secs for a time lapse. At the end of the adventure I realised the camera was off. Tried to turn it on but no luck. Oh well, battery died.

But it wasn’t the battery but the SD card. And the pictures (2000+) all gone. Maybe the card got corrupted when the battery ran out? Or maybe Philips is not a good brand?

My computer sees the SD card (16 Gb is the right size), but it doesn’t mount it. I wonder if there is anything I can do to retrieve the pictures trapped inside the card.

So, I'm in need of some confirmation of how UEFI works. Apparently, I don't even need a bootloader, because my UEFI shell already has that capability to switch boot entries? So then, I'd I just need to create an /EFI/BOOT directory in the EFI system partition, (from what I see it's often mounted to /boot or /boot/efi in Linux) and make a directory for each entry, containing an .EFI executable, a kernel image (vmlinuz) and the initramfs?

If I'm not wrong so far, great. Now, how do EFI stubs work? If it's the kernel booting itself from UEFI, do I not need an .EFI executable? Do I just dump a stub-compatible vmlinuz kernel image in /EFI/BOOT ?

Hey all. I have a strange issue and I can't get to the bottom of it. I'm following two accounts on the @bawü.social instance:

@stadtbibliothekstuttgart and @stuttgart

I noticed, that for quite some time now I can't see any of their posts in my timeline. Does anyone have an idea why? I can open their profiles and view everything there, all good - but nothing is shown in my timeline...

What could potentially cause this behaviour. Could this be a setting on the vivaldi instance? Or is it something in my personal settings? A glitch?

Kann ich Heizkörperthermostate irgendwie "eichen"? Oder muss ich wirklich auf Computer wechseln, wenn ich sinnvoll eine gewünschte Temperatur einstellen will?

Die Position und Solltemperaturen stimmen bei einigen meiner Thermostate schlecht bis gar nicht.

I did hear #duolingo is not recommended anymore cause AI slop.
Until now I used #drops cause it also has non-mainstream languages. But their app seems to become slower and slower with each update.
So I search for a language learning app for android for a friend. Friends native language is German and wants to learn English.

Is there anything I should do before charging, turning on, and trying install a new operating system a laptop that's been sitting for ten years?

I visibly checked the battery; it looks fine, but it had been attached the entire time.

Also, with #Linux, is there anything I would need to operate the #floppyDrive? Do some distros work better than others for that?
