A lot of people feel overwhelmed and powerless when it comes to the genocide in Gaza. That's understandable, it is overwhelming.

But no one is powerless. You can start to gather power yourself.

One way is to seek out and listen to people close to the situation. Then join in with the solutions that resonate with you.

We've hit the moment where my body is saying, "hey boo, what happened to the protein shake? You spaced on breakfast."

I know.

Fasting in even this small way keeps me present. Focuses me on the WHY that carries me through all the day to day efforts I put toward supporting and defending the Palestinian people. My very human hunger connects me to the very human hunger felt by the people I generally only see on the news.

There have been larger fasts, waves of people fasting all summer. This week of fasting is inspired by a new-to-me church - Middle Church of New York and online.

Last week a woman powerfully shared her own feelings of powerlessness and frustration and called the Church to fast with her. And I said yes.

Why am I fasting?

There is the notion in Buddhism among other places that the merit of an action - a meditation, the physical discipline of a yoga or martial arts practice, etc can be gifted or transferred to another worthy soul.

So I am fasting to dedicate this merit to the people of Gaza. May all be fed. May all be free.
