In this interview, Claudia Gonzalez, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Thompson Rivers University, shares how her research uses neuroimaging to study neurocognitive aging. #fNIRS plays a central role in this work. Using the Brite, her lab investigates brain–behavior relationships across diverse populations, while also integrating other techniques such as eye tracking, #fMRI, and neurostimulation.

In a recent study, Lin et al. examined how gymnastics tasks with high versus low cognitive demands affect working memory performance and frontal brain activity in children.

A recent study by Zhao et al. used #fNIRS to measure prefrontal activation in pilots during a simulated flight. By comparing different flight scenarios, the researchers showed that the Brite system could successfully distinguish positive (eustress) from negative (distress) based on brain oxygenation patterns. This ability to monitor mental state in real time highlights the potential of fNIRS for applications in cognitive neuroscience research.
