I was a bit skeptical when after reading many reviews, I ordered this bag. I didn’t like how floppy it was. I went back and forth between this and a backpack for the Scotland trip, ultimately settling on the #PeakDesign bag. (Which performed beautifully, by the way.)
So this is the first trip I’ve used the #Domke bag on, and despite it not feeling like any other bag I’ve used I’m kind of sold on it. It fits my #FM3a, 50mm and 28-105 lenses, bottle of water, Mamiya 6, and more film than I am likely to shoot in a day with ease. Carrying it cross-body with the clasp connected feels pretty safe even in a crowded subway station. Thankfully it’s not raining on this trip (so far) but the waxed canvas is a nice touch for dealing with moisture.
I also wrote up my ownership of the Nikon FM3a, a long time ago (originally posted on Tumblr around 2011; I republished it on my vanity site in 2023).
I spent 5 years lusting after the FM3a (2003 to 2008) even though I had migrated fully to Canon dSLRs in that time. I bought mine new, from a Vancouver camera store, on "closeout pricing"; IIRC, I paid $599 CAD for it, brand new. Funny now, beat up used ones from Japan cost $1,000 CAD or more to get.
And they're worth that, and then some.

The Nikon FM3a is nearly the perfect SLR.
It's timing was its only flaw. Nikon planned, developed, tested, and built this masterpiece in the sunset age of film photography, as the sunrise of digital was upon us.

My favourite 35mm film camera, by a long stretch, and yup, I own a Leica M6, a Nikon F4, amongst others.
The Nikon FM3a electro-mechanical 35mm camera. The last one Nikon made or designed, and by far their best ever. I've put maybe 250 rolls through it.
Speaking of fantastic film cameras, how about the last, greatest mechanical 35mm film SLR ever made?
The Nikon FM3a. Pure brilliance. 1/4000th shutter speed, mechanically, without battery. It is actually my favourite film camera (including the Leicas I have).
I wrote about this wunderkind.
