Work PC received #Windows11 #24H2 today. While waiting for the update of #ExplorerPatcher https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher to get my #Windows10 taskbar back, I found #QuickLaunch https://github.com/chrizonix/QuickLaunch , which will let you add the content of a folder to your taskbar again. The second it takes to show up is painful, but it's still better than nothing, for the moment.

The US election results worried me, the collapse of the German government also hit me hard, but still: Why the hell doesn't #ExplorerPatcher manage to show the names of the applications in my stupid #Windows11 taskbar anymore since yesterday???

Ughhh the latest version of #ExplorerPatcher has been marked as malware by Microsoft and a bunch of other virus scanners.

The project maintainers insist it's a false positive and likely Microsoft trying to clamp down on them for whatever reason.

Guess I'll just stay on my currently installed version for a bit and see if it blows over.

Ice cold take: #openshell and #explorerpatcher should be built into #windows

Hot take: I should be able to replace Windows Explorer entirely with a fully functioning #kdeplasma

If I'm gonna be stuck dual booting into this unlikeable OS just for the moments I want to play VR games until valve releases Deckard, I want it to at least look pretty and function better.

Trying to make windows into #linux is like putting lipstick on a pig, however. Those crunchy icons :(
