TAIKO-01 Ergonomic Split Keyboard [2026 April Update]

https://lemmy.world/post/45558536

[Show Lemmy] I got tired of TRRS cables, so I built a 420g CNC aluminum, truly wireless split keyboard

https://lemmy.world/post/45063985

Had the kit for it since December now, but didn't quite get around to actually tackling that project. But last week I finally got around to writing the keymap and getting it to compile, and on Tuesday I managed to print the case and assemble everything.

I even assembled it wrong at first, and only realized after I already had soldered all switches, meaning I had to unsolder everything once. Still, I managed to finish it.

If you are tall or have broad shoulders, you may particularly benefit from the ergonomics of a truly split keyboard.

There are options in all sizes and layouts.

@wsa That’s a Boardsource Unicorne with MT3 keycaps and a custom cable between the halves.

I created my own layout firmware for it: https://mark.stosberg.com/markstos-corne-3x5-1-keyboard-layout/

At this point I’m fairly fast and efficient with it.

After working on it for more than a year, I’m starting to see the finish line of this project. So it seemed like a good time to share an update and some renders on my GitHub development branch. If I don’t hit any major snags, I expect to build the first prototypes in March or April and publish the final design and a build guide later this spring.
