I admitted it long ago.
#EndTheEpsteinClass

I am a citizen of the United States of America. I tell you this to tell you that I am ashamed of my country,

I am ashamed of my country for being founded on genocide and slavery for Christ and white supremacy at the direction of an owning class. (You might be seeing that called the Epstein class these days.)

I am ashamed of my country for basically carrying on, in some form or another, with the genociding and enslaving for [white] American Jesus and billionaires since its founding.

I am ashamed of my country for being the first to develop and test nuclear weapons.

I am ashamed of my country for detonating nuclear weapons over cities full of human beings.

I am ashamed of my country for holding the threat of nuclear annihilation at the world’s throat for more than half a century.

I am ashamed of my country for standing ready at every moment of every day to commit genocide against the world on the orders of one man. (I suppose it wouldn’t be any better if it were a committee rather than one man, but somehow it feels particularly egregious that just one terrible decision from one equally terrible human being could be the end of us all.)

I am ashamed of my country for toppling other countries’ governments—especially democratically-elected governments—to install and prop up fascist regimes for the benefit of corporate/imperial interests.

I am ashamed of my country for consistently standing against every measure for justice and human rights ever put forth by the rest of the world.

I am ashamed of my country, and if you’re American, you should be too.

Shame is uncomfortable, unpleasant, unwelcome—I know. That’s the whole point of shame: it’s meant to feel bad. Gods, fam, we should feel bad that ours is only one of two nations in the entire world that voted no to a resolution to recognize food as a human right. There’s no context in which that isn’t just fucking awful.

So put aside your pride—which only blinds you and makes it easier for the owning class to manipulate you—and sit with me in our shame. Stew in it with me. Let’s feel bad about things we should feel bad about.

Then let’s do something about it.

The UN Voted to Make Food A Human Right, Only Two Countries Voted No: Israel and USA

The United States and Israel have a History of Voting to Protect Their Interests at the Expense of the Rest of Us
