Northern Flickers. Large woodpeckers that tend to be in our area year-round. We see two subspecies (Red-shafted and Yellow-shafted). The markings are distinct, but you have to look fast, since these are always on the move. The ranges of the two overlap in our area.

ON this day 10 years ago I got actually arrested!!
In the company of ten amazing women we occupied the office of Senator Michaela Cash and said we would not leave until we go the answer to our question "When will the 726 children and their families be released from immigration detention?"
We took this action after every other avenue available to us had been exhausted. I myself have written to Sen Cash and asked for an appointment and not received a reply. I have signed petitions, organised marches, written submissions and visited parliamentarians offices.
We were treated with respect by all we came in contact with today. Many said privately that 'we have kids and we respect what you are doing."
I hope anyone out there with a friend or relative who copes with a mental disability and is still thinking of voting for Trump realizes that their friend or loved one is nothing more than a punchline to him.

On average, a horse is killed on Australian racetracks every 2.5 days from racing related injuries.
But the social license of the racing industry is fading fast. A recent independent opinion poll found that a massive 64% of Australians believe racing animals for gambling and entertainment is cruel.
Against a backdrop of expensive marketing campaigns that claim the Cup to be universally loved, people are switching off from racing in droves and sponsors can feel the tide of public opinion turning.
After nearly 40 years, fashion sponsor Myer recently ended their partnership with the Melbourne Cup. Other sponsors should do the same.
Greens Deputy Leader and Spokesperson for Animal Welfare Senator Faruqi has written to primary Melbourne Cup sponsors, urging them to follow the lead of Myer and drop their sponsorship of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. And you can join this campaign by doing the same.
