Ottawa is allowing rural areas to employ more temporary foreign workers to help supplement the local workforce. Restaurants Canada says some restaurants on the east coast and here on P.E.I. need access to temporary foreign workers to keep the doors open.

The (Short-Term) Effects of Large Language Models on Unemployment and Earnings

Large Language Models have spread rapidly since the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, accompanied by claims of major productivity gains but also concerns about job displacement. This paper examines the short-run labor market effects of LLM adoption by comparing earnings and unemployment across occupations with differing levels of exposure to these technologies. Using a Synthetic Difference in Differences approach, we estimate the impact of LLM exposure on earnings and unemployment. Our findings show that workers in highly exposed occupations experienced earnings increases following ChatGPT's introduction, while unemployment rates remained unchanged. These results suggest that initial labor market adjustments to LLMs operate primarily through earnings rather than worker reallocation.

It's amazing how people selling AI are explaining that AI will lead to hell because it will replace all jobs (yes, subposting https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/ai-doom-countdown-begins-ex-google-exec-warns-ai-will-unleash-hell-to-wipe-out-white-collar-jobs-by-2027/articleshow/123119887.cms).

But they never say "because current AI trend is not toward AI engine that are observable and used as a supporting tool for expliciting complex decisions, but are just expert bullshiter taking bullshit decisions - ie decisions not grounded in reality, or Witt notion of 'true' or 'false', just with the look of plausible and a white-rich man self-importance".
