_The Evening Post_, 4 June 1924:
              CABLES TO KHANDALLAH
A commencement was made this week in the cutting of a trench down Jervois quay, from there to cut across to Thorndon quay and the Hutt road, for the laying of the heavily-armoured electric #cables which will join up the Jervois quay sub-station with the Government transforming station at Khandallah. It is probable that the laying of these cables will occupy several months, and consequently #Mangahao power cannot reach city consumers until well on till the end of the year. As has been stated previously, a second great Bruce Peebles frequency changer is to be installed at the Jervois quay sub-station that the Mangahao power at 11,000 volts, 50 cycles, may be distributed over the city, pending the completion of the change-over, at 80 cycles, 2000 volts.
