Edinburgh friends, I'm thinking of buying a bike for the first time in quite a few years (early 50s guy here!). I'm probably looking for a hybrid for city and non-MTB use.

My question is: what friendly bike shops in the city would you recommend? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on a new bike, but have no recent experience in any of this!

Thanks in advance!

Hey #edinburghcycling/#edinburghbike I have a question.

These are (basically) the city bike corridors. Blue goes from CCWEL/Haymarket to Leith Walk, Red goes from Fountainbridge to the Innocent Railway Tunnel.

How do you cross the Old town? Going up the Mound or Middle Meadow Walk is a workout, and George IV Bridge is chaos incarnate. North Bridge is...well...North Bridge. Lothian Road is scary in a car. Do you get off your bike and walk it like I do, it's really inconvenient for all and Sundry.
I wonder if we can crowdsource GPS tracks of cyclists in and around Edinburgh to develop better Bike routes and infrastructure? I know it would likely be a privacy nightmare but I think it would be one tool to show where the cycle routes are so they can be targeted for investment and improvements. #edinburghbike #edinburghcycling
I was charmed and delighted this afternoon to see a tiny wee baby salt-spreader truck doing its protective thing along a cycle lane. Superb! And very cute. Here’s a terrible snap of its rear end.

@narpoleptic there is another option which keeps the excellent cycle path and enables the extension to the tramline but “alternative plans will lead to longer journey times for motorists”. Shout out for help on how to explain #TrafficEvaporation to my local councillors with #CarBrain I know I’m both emotional about this and very into the technical details and might not communicate so well. #EdinburghCycling #SpokesEdinburgh #urbanism #UrbanTransport #FuckCars
