Jaarlijks sterven in Nederland 5.000 tot 7.500 mensen aan de gevolgen van alcohol. Toch komt er weinig terecht van de stevige ambities van het kabinet om alcoholgebruik terug te dringen. Hoe kan dat? Staatssecretaris Van Ooijen hief de overlegtafel van alcoholindustrie en gezondheidspartijen zelfs op wegens gebrek aan resultaat. Uit correspondentiestukken blijkt glashelder welke strategieën de alcoholindustrie gebruikt om te proberen het alcoholbeleid te beïnvloeden. Ook de Europese Commissie lanceert plannen voor strenger alcoholbeleid, maar ieder jaar komen miljoenen via subsidies bij de alcoholindustrie terecht.
