Небольшой R&D о современных альтернативах Electron для десктоп‑приложений на веб‑технологиях. На одинаковом тестовом приложении (React + TypeScript + Vite) сравниваются ElectroBun, NeutralinoJS и Wails: как устроена их архитектура, каким образом они взаимодействуют с ОС, что происходит под капотом и почему результаты по памяти так сильно отличаются. В статье есть практические наблюдения, замеры потребления ОЗУ, плюсы и минусы каждого подхода, а также рекомендации, в каких сценариях выбирать минималистичный WebView‑подход, полноценный backend на Go или браузерный рантайм с максимально широкой поддержкой Web API и графики.

If anyone has a clue why newer #Electron builds downloaded from GitHub use a monospace font for UI items on #ArchLinux whereas the one downloaded via pacman doesn't (exact same version), please let me know.

I don't know what font Electron is loading there and why but I give up for now.

There is something I still can't get about #Docker. It's the trend to distribute even small simple scripts or apps as containers.

There are definitely some cases when we have to distribute, deploy and run large complex software. And those cases are completely understandable and Docker (or any other containerisation) is good for it.

But when I see, let's say, a simple #Python tool distributed as a container, I see the same problem as with #Electron but even worse. Instead of running a browser, here we have to run almost whole operating system in a sandbox wich is almost like a virtual machine.

To me it looks like an insane overkill and overengineering.
