'He always stressed that poetry is primarily a matter of craft - that a poet works 'out of words' (creating meaning), not 'towards words' (to create atmosphere) - suggesting again something instinctually Welsh in his poetic temperament.' -- Walford Davies

A few years ago we attended an event in Swansea, comparing & contrasting RS Thomas and Dylan Thomas. Many interesting insights from Prof M Wynn Thomas & Prof Daniel Williams.
Bottom line: #RSThomas is Eeyore, #DylanThomas is Tigger.

As today is Dylan Thomas Day, here’s a fairly lighthearted but interesting comparison of Dylan Thomas and RS Thomas, by the Walford Davies twins. It’s an S4C programme called Brwydr Y Beirdd (The Battle of the Bards) broadcast for the Dylan Thomas Centenary in 2014. In Cymraeg with English subtitles: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mbFNv32UF0A

"Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

It's International Dylan Thomas Day, so here's Richard Burton, Wales' finest voice, reading the words of his friend, Wales' finest poet.
