"This nonsense that we live with, whereby we're just not even acknowledging the tension between the sort of chaos, information libertarianism of the internet, and this old, structured [media] world. And the fact that one is clearly eating and destroying the other."

Firstly, it's kind of weird to claim that nobody is acknowledging this. Discussions about the state of the media industry and the future of journalism mention it *constantly*.

"[Charlie Kirk] was described as anti-immigrant, and that's true, but the way that he described his anti-immigrant stance was ... the more that you have vast numbers of people coming in to compete with you, the more that suppresses wages. That's a doctrinaire left-wing perspective in a lot of countries now."

Which ones?! This is bog standard, 20th conservative anti-immigrant cant, and it's wrong on at least 2 levels.

"... you have politics litigated on the platforms where young people are - everyone kind of is but particularly young people - and all the incentives of those platforms are to practice politics as this kind of bombthrowing exercise. Where the ... policy outcomes and how it might ultimately reach you feel a long way down the list, if they're on it at all."

They're not. The Algorithms do not care about policy.

This looks like an indirect subsidy to TVNZ. On top of accepting no dividend some years, despite the rules saying the state is many to interacts with SOEs like any private owner.

NZ media is in a major slump. Will a National-Act government make it worse?

The next government could slash their own advertising spend by more than half.

"... [Steve Tindall of Group M] 'says this culture grew out of the... much-awarded piece of work credited with helping New Zealand execute its elimination strategy. It eventually gave way to a major vaccination campaign, which also had a clear purpose to it... the success of those campaigns led to a mission creep, with mass market advertising or communications seen as a valid path for a larger array of government communications strategies."

Not a recession as such but an economic shock created by a pandemic, but yes, this person was right on the money.

"With a general economic tightening in the air, there is a renewed sense of urgency from senior media figures, with one media executive suggesting that even a mild recession could wipe out multiple huge media brands in 'months, not years'."

This recent article by #DuncanGreive of #TheSpinOff is worth a read but ...

"[The Common Room] does present a fairly coherent contemporary right wing ideology (free speech is important, small government is good, identity politics is too reductive etc)..."

I don't disagree with the first and third of these, as stated, so that makes me right wing now?!?
