Interesting questions from our phone question patron tonight.

Has Drew Cary ever had a substitute on The Price Is Right?

Yes. Craig Ferguson has substituted for him twice, once in 2009, once in 2014. Also, Drew is the longest serving gameshow host on air right now. He also has no plans on retiring, hoping to catch up to Sajak, Trebek, and Barker.

How are live shows closed captioned?

(Caveat, this is for the US, I'm sure it's different elsewhere.)
According to this really interesting site: https://www.nad.org/resources/technology/television-and-closed-captioning/captioning-live-programs/
Most live programing uses the “electronic news room” technique, which is they play the teleprompter script and hope for the best. However, major networks, (CBS, ABC, etc.) have to have someone typing it as it goes. A true live captioning. Also, the top 25 Nielson markets must do the same.
(This site lists the top 200: https://methodshop.com/nielsen-dma-rankings-full-list/)

So yeah! Really interesting.
