Ugh! #DreamHost just notified me that they're going to install #WordPress 7.0 on my site, which comes with "AI features."

I'm hoping these won't get in my way if I just treat my blog as a static website from now on.

New agents.txt file found on DreamHost | K-Squared Ramblings

DreamHost now adds a default agents.txt (similar to robots.txt) to hosted websites that discourages LLM training and agent actions and allows on-the-fly access. On the downside, they added it to existing sites without notice, and used a proposed spec that's already changed.

Do you have any PHP projects running on Dreamhost? If you haven't checked in on them in a while, *HEADS UP!*

Dreamhost may be charging you $5/month if your website is on an unsupported PHP version. That’s anything below 8.2.

PHP 8.5 Active Support
PHP 8.4 Active Support
PHP 8.3 Security Updates only
PHP 8.2 Security Updates only

Try to update your PHP to at least 8.4 so you get active support, and your developers can do *even more awesome things*

So part of my backup from #DreamHost was apparently missing and now I'm manually downloading the missing content over SFTP. I'm seeing a lot of content that's obviously not from Blind Access Journal. Let's just say there's a lot of files about luxury handbags and other things we've never discussed or written about... Hmm.
Last night was the final straw for me. I finally kicked #DreamHost to the curb because, every time I log in to their panel, I find new accessibility barriers. I switched to #InMotion. They're a lot better but also far from perfect on #accessibility so my verdict isn't out yet. Stay tuned.

Has anyone had any problems with DreamHost? I had a blog with them for 15 years. I shut it down 10 years ago. It was a good experience, so I thought I'd give them my business again.

I signed up for an account. They said that my account would have to be approved. Ten minutes later, they sent an email that said:

"Unfortunately, your DreamHost account has not been approved.… We wish you the best of luck in your search for a web host."

WTF?! Why does my account even have to be approved in the first place? Even if it does, what criteria do they use? Where do they get the data they evaluate to see if I'm worthy?

I sent them an email asking what happened. They wrote back:

"We are not able to provide specific details about the reasons for the account not being approved."

This whole thing smells rotten and probably discriminatory.

I can't find an advertised security contact for #dreamhost anywhere. Do I know anyone?
