I wish emergency pausing didn't require using up the shop pause first
It means someone calling me away for other obligations before I've used up the shop pause for the current stage can botch the run

Drainus arcade hard went poorly

I could've been rocking Nonstop shot at this point but during the stage 3-to-4 transition, I bought Emergency Power-Up and forgot to equip it so I had to use my "regular" pause (the one that allows buying and changing equipment, as opposed to the "emergency" pause that only allows quitting or resuming the game) to fix that.

💙 Goodness, Drainus on Ridiculous difficulty lives up to its name, particularly in stage 4

I die even once and I immediately get horror flashbacks of chaindying in Gradius II stages 3 and 4.

💙 I really do feel like Drainus is the perfect shmup for those who normally don't play shmups:

  • movie-sized length (about two hours)
  • lots of weapons to choose from
  • you can pause to change weapons
  • sufficient amounts of storytelling
  • excellent sprite-like visuals
  • save function to set your game aside and pick it back up later
  • unlimited continues
