It took some time, but I made sure to get back to this. I knew Sheila would have a response well worth reading. #dooce #heatherbarmstrong #blogging #mentalhealth #onlinesafety https://sheilaomalley.substack.com/p/living-out-loud-in-public-for-better?utm_medium=email
Living out loud in public, for better or worse

R.I.P. Heather Armstrong

The Sheila Variations 2.0

There's something deeply shocking when the mother of a child who is only 14 chooses suicide. It feels worse than when any other parent does it and I don't know why, I probably need to sort that shit out.

Anyway, RIP #dooce

Yes! I found the same in my dissertation back in 2014: #Dooce, #mothers & #women #blogging about issues of their concern incl. #motherhood in the US, UK, Germany & Switzerland opened new spaces for women to show the personal IS political & needs to be discussed way more in the public sphere, but also sadly brought hate & abuse toward women bloggers who dared to speak out publicly about problems they defined as relevant or political.

Opinion | Dooce and Other ‘Mommy Blogs’ Deserve Credit for Shaping the Internet

BuzzFeed and Gawker weren’t the only brands that moved the discourse.

The New York Times

"Already the early days of blogging are being forgotten, and the ability of the web to quietly erase history as sites fail and go offline means that those incredible, exciting, experimental days are being lost. But we shouldn’t forget those who forged the future of digital media, and Heather Armstrong was one of them. Let’s remember that — and her."

RIP Dooce: pioneering blogger Heather Armstrong is dead

The queen of mummy bloggers, the first influencer… Call her what you will, the tragic loss of Heather Armstrong means that one of the web's true pioneers is gone.

One Man & His Blog

This article (DOOCE: A Case Study on the Failure of Psychiatry) is pernicious horseshit. (I will link the archive so I don't add a single click.)

If you don't know someone, haven't read their books, and never read their blog, maybe don't use a half-remembered review your partner wrote four years ago to make sweeping generalizations about what psychiatry did or didn't do for them.

I was *years* out of touch with Heather, so I can't speak for her here. But as someone who has also struggled with mental illness, this is gross, gross, axe-grindy, divorced-from-reality stuff.

Narrative over numbers: Andreessen Horowitz's State of Crypto report

Venture capital firm and crypto pusher Andreessen Horowitz wants you to keep buying crypto, and is not above publishing blatant falsehoods to convince you to do so.

Molly White

A true pioneer. One of the people who paved the way for a whole generation to make a career online — and far too few people know her name.

RIP Dooce.

Feeling sad that #dooce died. A lot of Moms are not ok and the holiday is around the corner to remind us.

RIP Heather Armstrong, #Dooce Love and solace to her children. I’d go on occasional Dooce-reading jags, scrolling & laughing & gasping late into the night, er, morning.

Last fall we lost Julie Powell, of the #JulieJulia blog.

Both OG bloggers, amazing talents. Both so raw and real. Pioneers of new online genres, inspiring entire new swaths of work (parenting+lifestyle + influencer; food writing). They invented new genres and ways to work.

Bright torches, extinguished yet still shining on.

Look at me and my friend Heather being stupidly fucking serious in a HS favorites pic.

RIP, Heather. #dooce
