Sophie 🏳️⚧️ 🌜Did any of these specials feel like a celebration of 60 years of Doctor Who? Not really, in a way it kind of felt like RTD celebrating his own era.
But really, we couldn't have just done a Day Of The Doctor type story again. Those multi-doctor anniversary specials where you try to cram in as many returning characters as possible (e.g The Five Doctors) can be fun as a celebration of the show, but don't make great episodes in their own right and aren't an example of what the show is actually like. In a way I feel Wild Blue Yonder is a better way to celebrate Doctor Who, a solid episode that serves as an example of what Doctor Who is and can be.

I think out of all three specials, Wild Blue Yonder is probably my favorite, it's very reminiscent of another RTD story: Midnight (one of my favs of NewWho). I also like how out of all three, it feels the least like an anniversary special, it just feels like a regular 'ol episode of Doctor Who you'd have in the middle of a season.
14 may seem on the surface to be 10 returned, but actually he's kind of distinct from 10, he's an older, matured version. As rooted in nostalgia as it is to bring 10 (and Donna) back (which does bother me, Doctor Who should always move forward), RTD handled it well and didn't just pretend everything since 2009 didn't happen like I thought he might. I was super worried when I heard the rumors of Tennant being the next Doctor. I'm super opposed to bringing back a previous actor as The Doctor on a long-term basis but for three specials only was kinda cool.
