📗 "All About Love: New Visions" by bell hooks

Uhm. I saw a lot of 5-star and 1-star ratings on Goodreads for this title and I get it now.

Partially this book was fantastic. I enjoyed the early chapters and I liked how bell hooks makes strong points about patriarchy and capitalism in relation to love and connection. She speaks honestly about society, children's rights and the disadvantages of being isolated in a nuclear family unit. Her words sound truthful and are touching.

But then there are suddenly some bumps in the road. Some strange remarks about poverty, work and the lower class. A few anecdotes pop up that are kind of questionable. The sources start to shift. Bible quotes start to appear more often. A preachy voice enters the chat.

And then we get to the point where we just derail and we're in a sermon now. There's no exit. It's time to confess, to forgive and to pray.

I feel uneasy and I try to leave. "No, wait," the last chapters call out to me. "Have you heard about angels? They're really cool! And they're everywhere! Let me tell you all about them!!" I start running.
