Susan RamirezI found a dead mouse this morning, on the path where Tilda likes to chew things. It was dead and wet but not chewed. I got a mask, double-bagged it in plastic, and put it in the trash which is being picked up this morning. iNaturalist suggested both house mouse and deer mouse, but I think I see the characteristic deer mouse tail, dark on top and light underneath. Has hantavirus come this far north yet? Can dogs get hantavirus?

The Kitchen Trap was occupied this morning. I finally had to start an overwinter tank for girlmice. Amy (Amy's Organic Soup) seems unbothered by her change in circumstances and let me scoop her out of the trap barehanded, without any fuss. She's another young one. Probably only 4 weeks and new to inside life. Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks snow is stupid.
