Shop Around

On this day in 1961 Smokey Robinson and the Miracles gave Motown Records its first recording to sell one million copies. It was ’Shop Around’. Thanks to Berry Gordy’s astute ear some changes were made to the original slow blues version. The more upbeat R&B style had a widespread appeal and opened the door to years of success for the Motown label.
