In Shropshire, it was believed prudent to rearrange the furniture in a deceased person's room after their death. This was so if the ghost returned, it would not recognise the place and would quickly depart, leaving the family at peace.

Rosemary traditionally symbolises remembrance, friendship, and loyalty. Thus, it became customary to carry sprigs of it during a Shropshire funeral. After the ceremony, these would be placed in the grave as a sign of respect for the dead.
