@digitalraven Our compute vendor warned us that after March 30 their prices are going up 250% and to order everything we need before then, so we scrambled to put in a $30M order by this week.

Yesterday they told us they not only wouldn't be filling that order (we can try to resubmit it at the higher prices), but they won't guarantee they can fill anything at all for the rest of the year.

Things is gettin interesting.

Somehow I missed that #Microsoft has wedged Copilot AI into Notepad.

Yes, you read that correctly, and no, I do not mean some kind of tablet product, I mean notepad.exe. And I only found this out because the Copilot feature has a CVE that needs to be patched because of course it does.

Christ. I'm not worried about AI taking my job, I'm worried about AI making it *impossible to do* my job.

Your periodic reminder that

DROP TABLE *;

does what it says on the label and you really should double check what environment you're connected to before you oh god how is this my life?

So today's first task is to extract all the MACs off about 250 new compute nodes and feed them into DHCP and our various host profilers so that when powered up, they will auto configure and become useful little robots.

Someone has broken the script that does this.

I am at my parents' kitchen table with a laptop, no multiple monitors, a dodgy trackpad, and no external mouse.

Typing with one hand.

Welcome to 2026!

Every kitchen has 3 different ice machines because not everyone likes the same shape of ice cube and guys I think we're achieving this goal already.

(V.O.) In the last managers' "Must Communicate" deck that Big Software Company sent out this year, they announced that one of our goals for 2026 is going to be a "focus on becoming an accessible and accommodating workplace for #neurodivergent people."

(CUT TO: my entire team in a conference room staring at each other, baffled)

COWORKER: They... they know we're all computer engineers, right?

Meta is doing such a huge advertising blitz on their data centers construction like it is long lasting, last i checked they are constructing data centers, which can anyone chime in on how many people that employs post construction?

Maybe I am just a bit salty that my employer, Big Software Company, which does enormously complex 3D model simulations for the aviation, shipbuilding, nuclear, and automotive industries is having trouble buying enough GPU cards because they're all going to fulfill requests like "Ruth Bader Ginsburg Large Naturals." but idk. #IT #SysAdmin #DatacenterLife

The problem isn't so much "datacenters" as it is "building millions of square feet of datacenters that do nothing but pollute every possible form of online information with worthless LLM slop."

Interesting move by OpenAI, asking the Trump administration to expand the Chips Act tax credit to cover data centers.

Is this the infrastructure boom we were promised, or just more corporate welfare? What's your take?
