Having successfully fused my recent fantasy worldbuilding project #Darkwind with some of my best ideas from my earlier #ttrpg world #Kaendor into something that I really like, I settled on naming it Nemaril.

I don't think it's a particularly good or interesting name, but I checked and there's nothing like it on the internet already, and it doesn't totally suck.

Which is really everything we can ask for when naming our creations. 😎

And "Shadows over Nemaril" is a cool game title.

#Nemaril

Spending a few days creating the concept for #Darkwind ended up bringing back the spark to resume #ProjectWasp, giving me some ideas that were missing to continue working on that game concept.

I often feel that creativity is the fermentation of ideas. You need to fill up your mind with fun and evocative elements and let them sit for a while before a transformation into something interesting can happen.

I made zero progress on my game idea today.

Another "I am really not feeling it today" day.

Though it is starting coming back to me, now that I'm about to go to bed...

#Darkwind

I haven't really seen anyone doing this kind of dragon in fantasy for a very long time.

Could be fun to do something with them in a medieval style fantasy world.

Got some first information up on the influences and worldbuilding of a setting for #Darkwind. Also includes a map!

Got a first attempt at a proper site going. Ha ha!

Neocities is always so much fun to work with. Especially when you remember the internet from 20 years ago, and work on something with a 90s/2000s retro element.

Mastodon isn't the best place to blurt out all my thoughts on my new game idea #Darkwind, and I also want to keep my site https://bumblebeegames.eu/ somewhat tidy in case people might browse it later when there's actually news and updates about the development progress there.

So I think I'm gonna revive my neocities site for that: https://yorasworld.neocities.org/

For a 90s retro game, that seems to be the perfect medium. 😎

There's also interesting tensions from the historical period I am taking inspirations from for the societies of #Darkwind.

In 804, the Saxons submitted to the Franks, converted to Christianity and became part of the Carolingian Empire. Unlike their Danish and Wendish neighbors.

This was also the start of the Viking Age with frequent raids, primarily by the Danes.

In 906, there were two huge raids by the Magyars against the Saxons, and in 915 against the Danes.

Lots of large scale strife!

I guess ideally, the story of a game should largely match the mechanics (and dynamics and aesthetics) of the game.

I know I want the focus of #Darkwind to be on sneaking around castles and old tombs, and finding the people in the know, who are hiding among the normal populations of towns and villages, to get useful information from them.
So the story should be something about important people in castles, important things in tombs, and people pretending to not be what they are.

That's a start!

Back when I created Kaendor some 12 years ago, I deliberately wanted it to not resemble medieval Europe, and so I decided not to have any vampires in it.

But now that I am tinkering with #Darkwind, which is very much medieval Europe, and with the current chatter about The Witcher and Soul Reaver, I think it could be really fun to have vampires again. Maybe even make them a central piece of the worldbuilding? 😈
9th century vampires hasn't really be done before, I think.
