#popGroup56 is in full power. Today, we heard about all sorts of cool systems, including surprising 32 ancestral chromosomes of leps inferred from more than 400 #DToL genomes by Charlotte Wright.
(newish news)
Discovered how nerve-wracking is a postdocs hire, but I am very excited about folks joining my team.
And by the end of November (second month), I actually got to do a bit of science with the first #DToL springtail genome!

Genome of the week has to be the massive 90 Gb assembly of mistletoe, by the Darwin Tree of Life (not on 🐘). #DToL

In 2016, I collected hundreds of berries and squished them onto several small trees in the garden. In 2019, I spotted a sprouting seedling, which fortunately turned out to be a male and a female - so I finally have mistletoe to hang in the house. Only taken six years! A couple of new butterfly genomes out from #DToL (Darwin Tree of Life)! The first is the high brown #fritillary #Fabriciana #adippe

We've just submitted our #genomesonatree (GoaT) manuscript to Wellcome Open Research!

We've designed GoaT as a versatile, scalable search engine for genomic and sequencing project metadata across the eukaryotic tree of life.

Visit GoaT at https://goat.genomehubs.org to search for your favourite taxon, to explore patterns in genomic metadata or to check out the progress of many of the #EarthBioGenomeProject affiliate projects including #DToL (https://goat.genomehubs.org/projects/DTOL)
