#BundleOfHolding launched a new deal for #PaintedWastelands, a gonzo fantasy setting for old-school RPGs, but great for anyone who likes their fantasy more than a bit weird. https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Painted

They also have a number of other bundles still active that I'm not sure I mentioned, including #BurningWheel for another 12 days and both #OldGodsOfAppalachia for and #DIETheRPG for 5 more days.

Painted Wastelands Bundle

Adventurer! This all-new Painted Wastelands Bundle tours The Painted Wastelands, a prismatic pastel realm from Agamemnon Press for use with Old-School Essentials and other tabletop fantasy roleplaying game retroclones. Many paths might have sent you to this desert fever-dreamland on the Endless Plains: an eldritch misfire, perhaps, or a failed attempt to dethrone a god (it happens!), or you just made a desperate jump through a screaming archway. Now, stuck here in the Lower Ethereal Hierarchy, you must survive the Bleeding Eye Preachers, enormous Sky Jellies, the Laughing Spider, acolytes of the Void cult, and Fungal Canyons. Become an Oneiromancer, master of dreams, or a Cat, master of looking cute. Navigate warring factions, rescue a village of avian alchemists from the Floating Mausoleum of the Sky Ghouls, search for mummified demigods in the Violet Ruins of the Aeon Dwellers, get cursed and undertake the Pilgrimage of Yaldabythos to get cured, seek treasure and glory, and – if you're lucky – find a way out.

#BundleOfHolding has a deal on the #DIEtheRPG: $15 for the core book + 3 adventure anthologies.

It's based on the comic of RPG players being sucked into their own game work, exploring their existing and new traumas from that.

I had a blast playing a chunk of this in almost the ideal way: a small group of friends camping for the weekend playing almost the whole time. Really enjoyed it. Perfect for anyone who likes to get a bit meta.

DIE RPG Bundle

Adventurer! This new DIE RPG Bundle presents DIE, the tabletop roleplaying game from Rowan, Rook, & Decard based on – rather, created in parallel with – the DIE Image Comics series (20 issues, 2018-21) by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans. In DIE you play a group of flawed and desperate real-world adults (Personas) pulled back into a cursed roleplaying game that, as teenagers years before, you had barely survived. In a realm stitched together from your obsessions, dreams, and nightmares, you're power players called Paragons. Do you want to return to the real world or to stay here, where you can finally get what you want? Your whole group must agree whether you stay or go; the dead can't vote; it can get bloody. What will you do to get home safe? What will you do to stay here forever?

And today's entry for RPG a Day 2023 is 7) Smartest RPG!

I will interpret this as "an RPG that is particularly cleverly designed". In the recent past I have too many candidates for this position, like Blades in the Dark, Stealing Stories for the Devil, Numenera, Into the Odd, Agon and others, but I will talk about DIE:The RPG.

I have mentioned it earlier, but after playing it recently, I really appreciate how clever are all the design choices and, in particular, how the core rulebook is presented in such a way that you can play it "as designed" (2-4 sessions), as a campaign (>10 sessions) and as a one shot. In each of these cases the rules are tweaked, the authors give advice on how to run it and they even provide sample campaigns so you have inspirations and ideas.
