Nessun finanziamento per la sala da ballo voluta da Donald Trump alla Casa Bianca: lo stanziamento è stato bloccato da Elizabeth MacDonough, una funzionaria del Senato incaricata dalla Camera di decidere se destinare o meno i finanziamenti federali per il mega salone.
La notizia – riportata da The Hill – è una cocente sconfitta per il Presidente Trump che aveva sfruttato il tentato omicidio al gala dei media a Washington per sostenere le ragioni di una “ball room”. In quell’occasione Trump aveva parlato di sicurezza nazionale: il piano sarebbe stato infatti dotare la sala di vetri blindati e di un bunker. I repubblicani avevano poi provato a inserire il progetto nella legge di spesa per la sicurezza da 1 miliardo di dollari.
Ma la senatrice MacDonough, una figura super partes responsabile di questo tipo di decisioni dal 2012, si è pronunciata contro l’utilizzo dei finanziamenti – destinati al Secret Service ed altre agenzie del dipartimento della sicurezza – per la realizzazione del salone . “I repubblicani hanno cercato di far pagare ai contribuenti il conto della sala da ballo da un miliardo di dollari di Trump. I democratici al Senato hanno reagito con forza, mandando a monte il loro primo tentativo – ha scritto su X il leader della minoranza democratica Chuck Schumer – gli americani non vogliono una sala da ballo. Non ne hanno bisogno. E di certo non dovrebbero essere costretti a pagarne una”.
Nonostante il verdetto, il presidente americano ha sostenuto che il progetto da 400 milioni di dollari sarà realizzato con denaro proveniente da privati.

The news – reported by The Hill – is a bitter defeat for President Trump who had exploited the attempted assassination at the media gala in Washington to support the arguments for a “ballroom.” In that occasion Trump had spoken about national security: the plan would have been to equip the hall with bulletproof glass and a bunker. The Republicans then tried to include the project in the $1 billion security spending bill.
But Senator MacDonough, a super impartial figure responsible for this type of decisions since 2012, spoke out against the use of the funding – destined for the Secret Service and other agencies of the Department of Homeland Security – for the realization of the hall. “The Republicans tried to make taxpayers pay for the ballroom, costing Trump $1 billion. The Democrats in the Senate reacted forcefully, derailing their first attempt – wrote on X the leader of the minority Democratic party Chuck Schumer – Americans do not want a ballroom. They don’t need it. And certainly not should they be forced to pay for it.”
Despite the ruling, the American president maintained that the $400 million project will be carried out with funds from private sources.
