#Bicentennial bikeway in #Brisbane was closed today at the Star Casino site with fences, gates and security personnel telling people to get off their bikes to pass through.

It's a temporary event, 4-11pm every day for a few weeks.

Nonetheless just recently it has become a regular occurrence where cyclists are being told to slow down, stop and dismount in the area for various reasons, like trucks, utes, workers and people attending events. This section of the bikeway is no longer a bikeway.

Really pleased to see people from #spaceforcyclingbne there encouraging people to put in complaints to Star, BCC and the state government.

I'm pretty riled up about this as it's a major regression, cutting access on a bikeway that has no real alternative. It should never have been sold off to Star in the first place.

KP Green Bridge. It's opening in December but you can already ride on the bit underneath. Looks cool.

"Brisbane's CBD still isn't designed for bikes"

I agree with this article. For example the Bicentennial bikeway doesn't connect up to the grid (which is barely a grid). What's worse is that the surrounding suburbs are even more sparse on bike infrastructure and growing traffic makes it dangerous to ride in traffic.

I forgot the Brisbane Council shut the botanical gardens bikeway for an indeterminate amount of time while they build the new bridge. This is the alternative route.

Edit: ok I've opened up pedestrian path so all this is moot

The half river loop is a pretty good route for a lunch break. I fell out of the habit when I only had a single speed, but I have gears now 🥳 https://www.strava.com/activities/11965900739

Veloway V1 bikeway into #Brisbane CBD

I love the shade and greenery along this stretch. It's really nice to see the vines have grown back nicely after the storms pulled them down a few years ago.

Did the big one tonight. It's 15° out, but by the time I was rolling home I couldn't go past the little gelato place (got me a tub of pistachio 😇). Anyway I'm freezing, gonna jump in the shower

The new bikeway under the Story Bridge is now open. It'll connect with the Kangaroo Point Bridge when it opens, and take you about 100 metres before the path ends and becomes a shared footpath onward to the East Brisbane Bikeway

This used to be a dedicated off road bikeway. Council handed it to developers and let them do whatever. So now it's whatever.

TIL that many of #Brisbane's bus stop shelters are privately owned (not just the advertising slot).

With more e-scooters on footpaths and busier roads making it unsafe to ride on, improving footpaths makes a lot of sense. One way that can be done is to make bus shelters transparent so that bus users and footpath users can see each other.

At the moment I'm trying to get access to a report from BCC about the safety of a shelter that they recently reviewed.
