@camless You're welcome. And if people have children or relatives who may not know about this, you may want to check for them and opt them out of nationalpublicdata.com, too (see https://nationalpublicdata.com/optout.html).
Then also help them create security freezes.
Parents of young children: Check to make sure your kids' info isn't in the nationalpublicdata.com site. Opt them out if they are. Then:
Your kids should not have a credit report unless you authorized them to use a credit card or something. But they may also have a credit report if their identity info was obtained and misused.
Check to see if they have a credit report by contacting the major credit reporting firms. You may have to mail the request for Equifax, but you should be able to check online for Experian and TransUnion .
To be proactive: freeze your young child's credit report.

And, while we're talking credit reports, if you haven't checked yours in a while, time to do that, too!
Federal law (for USAians again) mandates you can get one copy of each of your reports for free in a one-year time span. You can get all three reports at once, or check one of them every four months.
There are many mock services that offer to get you your reports. There are plenty of services (even the bureaus themselves) that provide paid services to get you more copies over a year.
But the place to go for the annual free ones is:

President Donald Trump has fired the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Rohit Chopra, in the latest purge of a Biden administration holdover. Chopra was one of the more important regulators from the previous Democratic administration who was still on the job since Trump took office on Jan. 20. Chopra's tenure saw the removal of medical debt from credit reports and limits on overdrafts penalties. But many in the financial industry saw his actions as regulatory overreach. In a social media post Saturday about his departure, Chopra thanked people across the country who “shared their ideas and experiences” with the government’s consumer financial watchdog agency.
