It baffles me how so many people are willing to give up what makes them happy, worse: to lose touch with what makes them happy.
Instead they supplant it with what society tells them *should* make them happy, or driving to make other people envious, or taking pleasure in other people's misery.
I was a child when I realized that if you can't identify something common, free, and ubiquitous that makes you happy, likely nothing does. Literally a child.
(My thing, at that point, was squirrels. They still make me laugh, but also, they eat my strawberries.)
I am currently dreaming of what I will do with a bushel of yellow paste tomatoes: planning for the yellow pizza; considering toppings other than yellow shepherd peppers, onion, and garlic.
I have also planted black, orange, and purple paste tomatoes, in addition to reds (San Marzanos, Mary's Austrians, and a generic red roma).
Too late I researched green plum tomatoes, realizing that the variety literally named Green Plum tomatoes are the ones I have been growing, mislabelled Green Grape tomatoes, because Green Grape tomatoes are not in fact a grape tomato but a cherry (round). 😐
Green Plums are a grape. But there are normal sized green plum tomato varieties, and I'm probably going to grow some next year, though I'm undoubtedly going to make a few jars out of the aunt Ruby's German Green Tomatoes which are quite a meaty tomato and will probably be fine for making paste.
Anyway, imagine if everyone had the ability to take pleasure in immensely simple things, and looking forward to sharing food with friends.
Think how much better the world would be.
