Does #ComputerRecycling have any DDR3 for sale? I recently got a computer with 2 slots but only 1x4G, would really like to upgrade to 2x8G...
Could use some power supplies too, if they're still available...

Yay @chaslinux! #TheWorkingCentre's #ComputerRecycling is working with the City of #Kitchener to refurbish low-cost computers!

Kitchener looks to better connect community with recycled devices.

In #Kitchener ( #WaterlooRegion, Ontario, Canada) we have #ComputerRecycling run by @chaslinux
There used to be a large DIY repair component (with tech support from staff), but I think that due to a combination of Covid and funding cuts it's all been scaled back.

It's possible that #ComputerRecycling has a similar laptop with a cracked screen. Then someone (Hi Charles!) could put your stickered screen on a working body, swap the drive, and it's fixed.
What make and model is your laptop?
(@kwlug used to hold laptop fixit parties at #ComputerRecycling on weekends, where we'd frankenstein together working parts from two or three broken laptops to make one working laptop. Don't know why that stopped...)
Any idea what part of your laptop is dead?
A few years ago at a @kwlug swap meet someone brought in a "dead" laptop. The only thing wrong was a dead battery that was trying to charge, but pulling so much power the laptop wouldn't boot. I removed the battery and it ran just fine, and it was my daily computer for years.
It's possible #ComputerRecycling at #TheWorkingCentre has parts to fix it; if not, they have cheap (used) computers and laptops.

Bitte mal weiterfrage / boosten / tröten:
Hat jemand zwei alte #Speicher-Riegel Typ DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-8500, DDR2 PC2-5300 herum liegen, die gespendet werden können (FF meines Ortes). Ich übernehme den Versand!
Taking one of my old(ish) tower systems and gifting it to friends is fun. Yes I could end up being tech support since they are now running Linux, but it is worth it just so I can tell them the utterly politically incorrect and completely offensive (but strong) passwords I set on their new user accounts.
When I lived in Dallas back in the late 90's, there was a monthly open-air electronics market on Friday nights. People would plop open their trunks and trade or sell computer parts. It opened at MIDNIGHT and went through 11 am the next day. It was beautifully chaotic, and with some grey haired perspective, probably illegal. 😆
Does anything like that exist today? Is there a website directory somewhere of these kinds of markets?
