@SchlocklusterVideo Little Darlings is honestly a good movie!
@owlislost Takes coming-of-age to high art! Really need to give it a rewatch one of these days!
@SchlocklusterVideo I actually haven’t seen it since the ‘90s but my friend and I had rented it as a joke (in fact, the video store was renting it as a joke for like 25 cents or something) and we quickly became sucked in. Both leads were so dang good.
@owlislost Great stuff! Really miss discovering films off the rack like that!
@SchlocklusterVideo Same. Don’t miss the late fees though.
@owlislost 🤣 Truth! Rewind fees as well!
@SchlocklusterVideo I forgot about those!
@SchlocklusterVideo I swear to god Netflix was so successful not for the ease of the mail but because it stopped that late fee nonsense.
@owlislost Truth! Blockbuster might have stuck it out through the streaming era if they just weren't such sticklers about that copy of Jerry Maguire being a few days late! 🤣👍📼
@SchlocklusterVideo Seriously. I liked visits to the video store just like I like visits to the bookstore or the library. And it was kind of cool that because you went on a very specific mission—to get a movie to watch—if they didn’t have what you wanted, you had to find something else, which resulted in all kinds of great discoveries. But those damn late fees were brutal.
@owlislost Definitely had those same enjoyable bookstore/ library vibes! Whole plethora of culture within arm-reach. Don't know how many films I would have never encountered if someone hadn't rented the film I came for!
@SchlocklusterVideo I know! It’s really only know becoming clear how much has been lost.
@owlislost Sadly faded cultural institution, imo. Completely changed entertainment consumption for decades. Don't wanna sound too grandiose about it, but almost feel like the first Blockbuster deserves UNESCO preservation for the level of cultural impact! 🤣 Seriously though, crazy to think about how that experience has completely disappeared in the age of the endless screen scrolling ...
