It is a fascinating read that helped me (as an ‘almost European’ Ukrainian) correct for my own #colonialGaze.
Not resilience.
Only lack.
This is how narratives are built.
Not always by lying-
but by choosing what to show.
And more importantly… what not to.
Because one frame can travel farther
than a thousand lived realities.
So ask-
Was this documentation…
or curation?
And when images shaped opinion back then-
who controlled the lens… and who paid the price?
