Don't forget #Codetermination - worker representation on corporate boards of directors [1] - which exists in the majority (not the US) of OECD countries in some form or other. That's complementary to unions: it's direct workers' participation in the top level of power.

Truman touched the "third rail of American capitalism" - #CoDetermination, the idea that workers should have a say in how their employers ran their businesses.
Co-determination is common in other countries - notably Germany - but American capitalists are violently allergic to the idea.
