It's brutally cold in Maine this weekend (low of 3 degrees today 🌡️ ), but this 'passive house' in the town of Hope stays cozy at 70 degrees inside — without running the furnace! From Maine Public Radio's #ClimateDriven series

This Maine home can stay 70 degrees without a furnace, even when it's freezing outside

With extra insulation and lots of sun, a passive house in the town of Hope is able to maintain an indoor temperature of around 70 degrees without the use of a furnace.

Would love to help expand this effort around Ellsworth, Lamoine. Vast mud flats, so many green crabs, so few clams. And we can only eat so many of the (too small) crabs.. ~

Exciting to learn Arctic charr (subspecies spelled differently than what you find in the market) persist in some Maine ponds, including in our Hancock county! UMaine, UNH researchers to study how foraging adaptations affect Arctic charr resilience or vulnerability to climate change - UMaine News - University of Maine

University of Maine and University of New Hampshire researchers will investigate how the diversity and evolution of feeding habits among Arctic charr populations in Maine affect their resilience or vulnerability to climate change. The National Science Foundation’s Organismal Responses to Climate Change Program awarded almost $1.5 million for the study, spearheaded by Nathan Furey, an …
