🪷 1 June is the feast of #Cardea, ancient Roman goddess of thresholds, door handles and hinges. Her name comes from cardo, meaning door-pivot. Hinges can open quietly, or creak to let us know they are being moved. They can make jewellery easier to wear, or boxes more secure or open your lap top or folding phone. They are one of those small domestic things that our lives would be more awkward without. All hail Cardea, may your hinges always swing freely! 🪷
