SILICON VALLEY, CA - Streaming giant Netflix has fired back at a CRTC report recommending they increase their contributions to Canadian media, insisting this would force them to raise prices on Canadian consumers which they recently raised and were already planning to raise again.

Profuse thanks to @giflian for recommending this episode of “99% Invisible” about Canadian Content Regulations (ie: CanCon) and the qualifying programme based on Music Artist Performance Lyrics (MAPL).
A bunch of it I knew already, but the reminder of what happened before or after other factors was fascinating. Also cool was hearing what artists were inknown by Americans as being Canadian.
It’s worthwhile hearing what they’re trying to include now, as well.
