The Union That Doesn’t Like Confrontation

The Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) prefers to work with, not against, employers. So what happens when workers want something different?

Good things can be accomplished when workers truly stick together and are backed by their union. Hajdu must resign or be forced out; by doing the private corporation’s bidding, she’s proven she is unfit to serve. #AirCanada #canLabour

Dear CBC, Any story that has CEOs whining about labour shortages but says *nothing* about wages is useless. If there is a shortage of workers, then wages should be going up. If wages aren't going up, why not? That employers would like to shape immigration policy to help them acquire labour on the cheap is not really news. No info about wages means we have no way to judge if it's a "crisis". #CanLabour

Why Canada is on the cusp of a housing construction crisis | CBC News

Housing is about to get a lot more expensive in the next decade if the federal government’s immigration program bringing in skilled workers isn’t revamped. Many in the construction industry say there aren’t enough domestic workers going into jobs that don’t require an apprenticeship or certificate and the current system bringing in newcomers only covers highly skilled workers.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/as-canada-post-strike-drags-on-frustration-mounts-over-prohibitive-courier-costs-1.4273733 Typical news coverage of a labour dispute. Before the workers took action, any stories were about how useless/outmoded/unnecessary they were (in this case, because "we got email now!") Once the strike starts, we get daily "horror story" coverage but nothing about the issues in the dispute. As usual, management - which is as responsible for this as the union - gets a free ride and no tough questions. #CUPW #CanLabour #PostalStrike

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/psac-strike-vote-irregularities-1.6818582. I'm sure that all the people pretending outrage about this are equally upset about Doug Ford winning a majority govt with 40% of a 43.5% voter turnout.

Also, this was news when vote was taken, but mainstream media didn't bother to cover it at the time - a fact it refuses to acknowledge, so all coverage has to pretend this strike came from nowhere out of the blue. Shameful.

At any rate, a strike mandate is a strike mandate. Get over it. #CanLabour #PSAC
