Today, a non-profit watchdog group, the Campaign for Accountability (CFA), sent a letter to the United States Attorney in Nashville requesting a criminal investigation of Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R). The request, which was also sent to the Tennessee District Attorney, centers on whether Sexton sought and received excessive per diem expenses. The group asks the officials to "immediately investigate whether Mr. Sexton has violated any state or federal criminal laws, including felony theft, honest services fraud, and tax fraud."
Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) has responded to Pupular Information's meticulously documented report that, though he represents Crossville in the legislature, he and his family live in Nashville in a house he secretly bought there.
Judd Legum quotes Sexton's response to the report, then states,
"Virtually nothing Sexton said [in his response] is true."
On Thursday, Popular Information reported that Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) secretly purchased a $600,000 home in Nashville. Sexton and his family live in the Nashville home year-round, raising questions about whether Sexton can legally represent Crossville, a community that is two hours from the state capital. Sexton also has claimed tens of thousands of dollars in per diem reimbursements from taxpayers that are intended for representatives that live 50 miles or more from Nashville.
