This session explores citizen science and community-based research as tools for improving air quality and fostering equitable communities. We'll discuss effective strategies for collaborating with citizen scientists, integrating community data into research, and communicating findings to diverse audiences. Dr. Schulte will present insights from three projects: Breathe London, a hybrid monitoring network translating local data into policy; AWAIR, piloting public air quality displays; and a global conference on air quality communication. Key findings will consider diverse contexts within air pollution governance. Raghuvansh will share Project Healthy Air, a citizen science program providing app-enabled sensors in schools. This enables students to observe localized air quality, collaborate with scientists, and support studies. Project Healthy Air brings real-time data into classrooms, enhancing STEM education and inspiring positive actions like planting trees and adjusting travel based on AQI.
