I read #HawkMountain by #ConnerHabib and I need someone to talk to about it.

I don't read novels often, but this book reminded me of what they can do. The story was dreadful. An emotional horror of intergenerational trauma, maladaptive coping strategies– the consequences of abuse on the childhood psyche.

It leaves me considering all the moments when light could have broken in, when tough love could have prevailed over violence. But sometimes wounds heal wrong, and sometimes we don't know it until pressed or strained in just the right way.

"The people [who say] we need to have free speech, we need to be able to say everything we want... very often don't want free speech. They just want to be in charge of the indoctrination; I want free speech so I can get you to believe in me and come around to my way of thinking, which is very different than the... radical presence of The Other, which is; I want free speech so that you can present who you are and I can present who I am."
